Once completed, BalWin4 will transport clean offshore wind energy from the North Sea to Germany, an important step towards a sustainable future in energy. As part of the 2 GW program, long-term partners will be dedicated to drive innovation and investment in the energy systems of the future. With the combined expertise of GE Vernova, McDermott International Ltd, and Sangsangin Ship Machinery Co. Ltd. production of BalWin4 is now underway.

The steel cutting ceremony is a time honored tradition in shipbuilding and offshore projects, representing a significant milestone of a project.

The event took place in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. Steel panels weighing at least 4,600 tons will be produced in South Korea and shipped to Batam, Indonesia, where McDermott will assemble the platform. This project aims to produce an offshore platform (substation) that converts alternating current (AC) electricity of offshore wind power generators into direct current (DC). The panels manufactured by Sangsangin Ship Machinery are planned to be installed in the North Sea after they are finally assembled at McDermott's Indonesian plant.
