IPTO's subsidiary Ariadne Interconnection has successfully completed the Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for the cable system connecting Attica and Crete, from Koumoundouros Converter Station to Damasta Converter Station.
Through this technical process, Ariadne's engineers verified that the power cables - with a nominal DC voltage of 500 kV and a total length of almost 400 km per pole - were successfully installed in their entirety, according to the technical specifications and requirements, making an important step towards the full electrification of the interconnection in the coming period.
The 1GW interconnection is considered Grecce's most ambitious transmission project; with the state-of-the-art ±500kV VSC Bipole converter stations supplied by SIemens Energy and the DC cable system supplied by Prysmian and Nexans
The project is expected to begin commercial operations in spring 2025.
